Samurai, Aikido & Kendo Uniforms
The traditional Japanese hakama uniform is a pair of divided skirt-like trousers that are used in the samurai sword arts like Kendo, Iaido and Batto-jitsu. The hakama is also part of the aikido uniform. It is said that masters of the arts used the hakama to hide their tricky foot work. In martial arts, the hakama is worn with a heavy top called a keiko gi, or "training uniform". Additionally, you'll find the heavy traditional armor, or bogu, used in Kendo and worn on top of the kendo uniform of hakama and keiko gi.
